What it is

• Contains sulfamethoxazole (a sulfonamide) and trimethoprim, which work together to block bacterial folate production, killing susceptible bacteria.​

• Commonly prescribed as a liquid for infants and young children who cannot swallow tablets.​

Main uses

• Treatment of urinary tract infections, ear infections (otitis media), respiratory infections (e.g., bronchitis), and gastrointestinal infections caused by sensitive bacteria.​
